York, 1605. De protestanten en katholieken in Engeland liggen elkaar al jaren dwars. Maar de katholieken zijn een groots plan aan het smeden: het ‘Gunpowder Plot’. Ze willen het parlementsgebouw met de protestantse Koning Jacobus I erin opblazen. Dan kan hij mooi vervangen worden door een katholieke vorst. Guy Fawkes werkt graag mee aan dit masterplan en helpt het buskruit naar binnen te smokkelen. Alles vordert gestaag, totdat Guy wordt betrapt door een dienstknecht…
