About Escape Tour santiago
In 1904, the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda was born. Soon he discovered his passion for language, and at sixteen his first book of poetry was published. Since writing did not bring in enough money, he had to change tack and became a diplomat.
For his work, he traveled all over the world. In 1943, Neruda returned to Chile, where he gained increasing political status and joined the Chilean Communist Party. That he was not at a loss for words became readily apparent when President González Videla ordered a miners' strike to be put down. Neruda was strongly opposed to this and showed it! As a result, he immediately had to go into hiding.
