In het Manchester van 1913 (en in andere grote delen van de wereld) is het met de rechten van vrouwen slecht gesteld. Stemmen is er niet bij, volwaardig lid van universiteiten zijn ze nog steeds niet en scheiden is praktisch onmogelijk. Emmeline Pankhurst is met andere leden van de WSPU al tien jaar lang op oorlogspad tegen dit onrecht.
In April 1913, Emmeline plants a bomb on British politician Lloyd George. Not much later, the activist was arrested and sentenced in absentia to only 3 years in prison. A small stroke of luck, because it could just as easily have been 14 years. Emmeline decides to flee. She has heard of Manchester's secret exit, but where is it...? Will the radical feminist manage to stay out of the hands of the police?
