Paul Gachet is a family doctor in Lille, but his true passion lies in art. When he inherits a substantial sum of money in 1870, he decides to change course. From that moment on, he treats patients for free, as long as they pay him with an engraving, a painting, or tickets to a performance. In this way, Paul slowly builds up an impressive art collection.
In 1890, Vincent van Gogh contacted him. The painter was admitted to Paul’s clinic for people with nervous disorders, but a few months later, Vincent shot himself in the chest and died. Paul saw his chance and stole several works by the famous painter. He copied them and sold the forgeries for high prices. But then Theo, Vincent’s brother, gets his hands on one of these forgeries. He is furious and rallies his friends. Paul has to make a run for it!
