It is December 9, 1589, and in Lier, Cathelyne van den Bulcke is brought to trial. Accused of witchcraft and denied a fair hearing, her fate seems sealed. Despite witnesses pleading her innocence, bailiff Willem Brant sends her to the torture chamber. Fear and hysteria prevail over the truth.
But then chaos breaks out. Level-headed citizens seize the moment, and Cathelyne manages to escape. She just has no idea where to go. Rumors speak of a secret exit from the city. With the help of local residents and only a few hours to spare, she must find it before her pursuers catch up to her.
