In 1275, the Moors were defeated by the King of Portugal, Afonso III. However, in Évora, the monks increasingly gained power. When the monks even began to raise their own army, Afonso decided enough was enough. Dinis, the King's son, was sent to the city to restore order.
Naturally, the monks were not happy about this and devised a cunning plan to force the prince out of the city. They knew that Dinis was terrified of anything related to death, so they dug up some bones and reassembled them into skeletons. In the dead of night, they delivered them, giving Dinis the fright of his life. The prince did not hesitate for a moment and made a run for it. At least, that was the intention...
