In the beautiful town of Stendal, Johann Winckelmann, the father of classical archaeology, was born in 1717. For as long as he can remember, he has been fascinated by art and archaeology. After several years of study, Johann goes to work for Count Heinrich. During one of the excavations, things go wrong. The young archaeologist secretly steals a valuable object. Count Heinrich sees this as treason and sends Johann away. But that\'s not all...
The count is furious and determined to ruin Johann's reputation. Johann fears not only the loss of his job and his good name, but especially his freedom.
