Jokingly, he asks the young women visiting his bakery if they would like to pay in kind. This way, he gets some sort of reward for his bread. However, the plan doesn't turn out as expected...
The Marquise of Saarbrücken hears of Gilbert's dishonourable proposals. Disguised as a beggar, she visits the bakery. Smitten by her beauty, Gilbert hints at a more intimate arrangement. The Marquise, furious, immediately summons her guards. Gilbert drops everything and flees. Fortunately, he has heard rumours of a secret exit. But where is it exactly?
