Camille Pernon was a famous silk weaver and merchant in Lyon around 1800. The rich inhabitants of the city were big fans of him and bought beautiful silk and brocade en masse. The good stories about Camille's merchandise also reached Napoleon. When the emperor came to Lyon in 1806, a visit to Camille's studio could not be missed.
Napoleon placed a mega order for silk fabrics for his imperial palaces. "The colours will remain bright and fresh for hundreds of years," Camille had said. The Emperor was therefore furious when he found out that the colour pigments were fading after only a short time. The silk weaver had to get out of Lyon. He had heard on the market that the city had a secret exit. Would he be able to find it in time?
