In 1275, the Moors were defeated by the king of Portugal, Alfons III. But in Évora, the monks increasingly gained power. When the monks even started to raise an army of their own, Alfons had had enough. Dinis, the king's son, was sent to the city to put things in order.
The monks, of course, were not happy about this and devised a cunning plan to get the prince out of the city. They knew that Dinis hated everything to do with death, so they dug up some bones and turned them into skeletons. In the dead of night they gave Dinis the fright of his life. The prince didn't hesitate for a moment and ran away. At least, that was the intention...
